Preparing for Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross Courses As a certified Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross instructor with the Lifesaving Society, I’m here to help you succeed in your training and build the skills needed to become a confident and capable lifeguard. To prepare for the Bronze courses, candidates should focus on the following key areas: First Aid • Review and practice essential first aid procedures. • Be confident in performing CPR and responding to choking emergencies. • Understand the principles of emergency care and how to apply them under pressure. Swimming Skills • Refine your front crawl technique and ensure you can tread water efficiently. • Meet the swim test requirements with strong form and endurance. Physical Fitness • Train for the endurance swim challenge—completing a set distance in under 10 minutes. • Build stamina and strength to handle real-life rescue scenarios. Rescue Drills & Lifeguard Knowledge • Learn and rehearse rescue techniques, including entries, approaches, and carries. • Understand the roles and responsibilities of a lifeguard, including risk assessment and victim recognition. Confidence & Communication • Develop the ability to stay calm and focused during high-pressure situations. • Don’t hesitate to ask questions during the course—engaged learners are successful learners.
